Head to head
When the group is torn between two
Five pairings we get asked about most, with a plain answer for each side.
Two co-op shooters, two very different bills
Both put four of you against far too many enemies. One costs money up front and nothing after; the other is free and asks for patience instead.
Helldivers 2 if…your group wants one purchase, then years of free updates with no grind talk.
Warframe if…nobody wants to pay tonight and at least one of you enjoys building a character over months.
Which hero shooter for a full stack?
Six friends or five? That question alone decides it for a lot of groups, but the two games also feel different in the hands.
Marvel Rivals if…you have six people, prefer chaos to discipline, and like third-person cameras.
Overwatch if…you have five, want tighter roles and matches decided by teamwork rather than ultimates.
Scary evenings: co-operative or competitive?
Both are horror you play with friends, but one has you huddled together with a torch and the other pits one of you against the rest.
Phasmophobia if…you want everyone on the same side, with laughing and screaming in equal measure.
Dead by Daylight if…you have exactly five people and one of them enjoys being the villain.
A shared world that waits for you
Two games where the world belongs to your group and progress is something you build together over weeks.
Stardew Valley if…the group wants calm, a farm and a reason to log on for twenty minutes.
Valheim if…the group wants a proper adventure with building, boats and bosses to plan for.
For the mixed-ability evening
When half the group does not play games, you need something that explains itself in a minute and gets a laugh in two.
Fall Guys if…you want to be on the same team, running and falling over for twenty minutes.
Among Us if…you want to accuse each other of things, and have at least five people to do it with.
